Welcome to Vol. 3 Number 01 of the Radio H.F. Internet Newsletter. Previous issues of this newsletter can be found at www.anarc.org/cidx/radiohf/index.html [right here! -- Ed.].
This marks the beginning of our third year of publishing the Radio H.F. Newsletter. The list of subscribers continue to grow. I would also like to thank many of the webmasters, whose sites have been featured in previous editions, who have chosen to either feature or link the Newsletter on their sites. This has resulted in a number of new people coming on board as subscribers.
I encourage our readers to share some of your favourite websites with readers of this Newsletter. It is an easy and painless thing to do. Simply send along the URL, together with a brief description of the site, and it will be considered for publication in an upcoming edition. I hope that everyone had a very happy and healthy holiday season. We enter the new millennium with hopes and wishes for an even better 1000 years than the last thousand! Let's get things off to a good start. I have included a few sites relating to the New Year 2001. There are some interesting events taking place in 2001, particularly in outer space. There will be quite a lot of attention paid to the famous movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey throughout the year as well. We'll focus on a few sites relating to the film.
The feature product in the Publicity Zone, and the big news in scanning, is the arrival of the most anticipated scanner in a very long time, the new Uniden BC-780-XLT TrunkTracker III mobile scanner radio. I have included links to some new sites that have surfaced as a result of this unit hitting the North American market.
I'd also like to draw attention to the 14th Annual Winter SWL Festival, in Kulpsville, Pennsylvania, taking place March 9 and 10, 2001. It is the largest gathering of radio monitoring hobbyists in North America. Look for details in the Publicity Zone.

After much hype and anticipation, the new Uniden Bearcat BC-780XLT TrunkTracker III mobile scanner has finally been released in North America. The first production run is being grabbed up quickly.

Every Sunday evening, on the West Island Amateur Radio Club (www.PubNIX.Net/wiarc/) 2-metre repeater, 146.910 MHz (-600), following the Swap Net at 20:00 Eastern, tune in for the Montreal DX Listeners Net, a net featuring news about all aspects of radio, shortwave, AM/FM, utilities, scanning, amateur radio. Included are listening tips, developments in broadcasting, reception reports, HF and scanner frequency information, special topics, questions and comments. This net has been running for almost 7 years, and has had over 500 different participants during this period. The net is operated by Sheldon Harvey, VE2SHW. Please feel free to participate. The Swap Net begins at 20:00, followed by a calendar of events including upcoming hamfests, amateur radio contests and special events amateur stations, plus a list of local events and meetings. The DX Net usually begins around 20:20 or 20:30 Eastern, and runs to approximately 22:00.

You can also hear my bi-weekly "CIDX Report" on Radio Canada International, Canada's international shortwave broadcaster, on the Maple Leaf Mailbag show. New programming is now also airing on the station. RCI also has a free e-mail news service available which issues daily bulletins of news and information from and about Canada.
