Welcome to Vol. 3 Number 09 of the Radio H.F.
Internet Newsletter. Previous issues of this newsletter can be found at www.anarc.org/cidx/radiohf/index.html [right here! -- Ed.].

I hope you have all had an enjoyable summer, or winter for those subscribers in the southern hemisphere. Nights are getting cool around here, but September marks the official beginning of the DX season for all radio hobbyists. Medium wave signals are already enhanced, and with the days getting shorter, and the noise levels decreasing, we should all be gearing up for another great fall and winter of excellent radio monitoring, hamming, or whatever aspects of radio you are involved in. Hopefully some of the sites featured in the next few editions will help you in your efforts to add those rare and exotic catches to your logbooks.

I am going to try to do some extensive publicity for the Newsletter over the next few months, so hopefully we will be seeing a growing number of new subscribers and hopefully an increase in contributions. Please continue to spread the word of the Newsletter to your friends and family. Even though they may not be into radio and communications, there are plenty of other subject matters covered, particularly in the General and Fun and Services Zones.

Please note in this month's Publicity Zone, there are two special offers on two new publications. The Haruteq Scanner Book, with scanner frequencies for Quebec, Ontario and the Maritime provinces, is now available.

Also, I am now taking advance orders for the 2002 edition of the popular shortwave publication, Passport to World Band Radio. Both publications are available at special prices. See complete details below.

Why not share the information in the Newsletter with a friend? They may wish to come on board with us. The e-mail address, for all contributions, comments, and subscription requests, is hfnewsletter@yahoo.com. Remember that contributors are entitled to a 2% discount on their next purchases from Radio H.F.

Note: Just a reminder again to regularly check out the RCI Action Committee and the Save the BBC Coalition websites for all the latest updates on the lobbying action to prevent or reverse changes to these international services.

www.youthradio.org
Via: Sheldon Harvey, Greenfield Park, Quebec

Youth Radio promotes young people's intellectual, creative, and professional growth through training and access to media. Through hands-on practice, working relationships with industry professionals, and production of award-winning programming, Youth Radio students learn the basics of broadcasting. In the process, they're exposed to a broad spectrum of media-related careers. But technical training is only part of the picture. Through their journalism education, Youth Radio students also strengthen their foundation in basic "life-skills": verbal expression, writing, computer technology, critical thinking, conflict resolution, and more. What about life-after-Youth Radio? Graduates emerge with a new confidence and hope for creating a positive professional future for themselves, and with concrete skills and contacts to get them there. Youth Radio contributes to the empowerment of teenagers by giving them tools they'll need for success. We also bring youth perspectives to the airwaves, shedding light on the concerns and interests of our young people.

September 2001 Feature Product -- Haruteq Scanner Book

Until recently, it seemed like we had seen the last of the Haruteq Scanner Book, the book of scanner frequencies of the various provinces in Canada. Bart Veerman, publisher of Haruteq, has surprised us all with news of a brand new edition of his popular book for eastern Canada. The new 302-page edition now combines the provinces of Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime provinces all into one book.

The text is bilingual. The information included is current up to June 2001, according to the publisher. The suggested price is $29.95, plus $4 postage, plus 7% GST, for a total of $36.33. BUT, for a limited time, I will make the book available to all Radio H.F. Newsletter subscribers at the special price of $32.00, postage and GST included. This special price is in effect until September 30, 2001. (For phone numbers, etc., see the Contacting Radio H.F. section below.) Cheques, money orders, Mastercard or Visa are all acceptable forms of payment. The books are now in stock. They won't be showing up at Radio Shack for several weeks, and no doubt they won't have any special introductory price when they do receive them.
